The Truth About Success
Real success is a person performing at the best of his or her ability most of the time in all of the important areas of his or her life. This is a person making the realistic best of what he or she got in the lottery of life.
To do the best with what we have, we must lead a balanced lifestyle that achieves three goals:
In the same way that we set goals in business, we must set goals in other areas of our lives to achieve a balanced result. When each new year approaches, we have an excellent opportunity to evaluate where we are going and:
- Set goals in our lives: for recreation and restoration, career and finance, personal and spiritual, family and community;
- Look at our current priorities;
- Get a picture of our present lifestyle;
- Plan a more balanced lifestyle and review where we are going
Remember that 'stars' excel at one activity because that is practically all they do. They're obsessed with the goal of being a star at that activity - a business, a skill, a sport, a hobby. Obsession with being a star may occupy an unreasonable amount of time and resources and neglect and damage other parts of your life.
People leading balanced lifestyles are more likely to be consistently successful in all of the components of that lifestyle. This is a durable definition of success.
- Keeping up with essential tasks at work and home
- Gaining pleasure and achievement from our activities
- Avoiding unnecessary stress to oneself and to important relationships
